Gerber: It's our biggest game of the year

He is a Munich native, he played for Bayern as a youth, and he even won a German championship medal with the Reds in 1972. The man in question is 58-year-old Franz Gerber, who has spent the last two-and-a-half years as chief executive and sporting director at Jahn Regensburg, FCB's DFB Cup first-round opponents on Monday. Gerber’s leadership and vision helped SSV Jahn unexpectedly gain promotion to the second division for this season, where they currently lie eighth in the table with a win and a defeat from two matches so far. In the build-up to Monday's cup tie, Gerber spoke to about the “absolute highlight".

Interview: Franz Gerber We're counting down the hours until your big match against Bayern. How much are you looking forward to it?
Franz Gerber: Enormous, of course. Bayern is the biggest name in German football and a genuinely huge club.

What was your first reaction to the draw? Would you rather have faced different opponents in the first round?
I'd have preferred a poor second division team.
