It was as if they’d all emerged from their pictures and come to life. Ottmar Hitzfeld, Udo Lattek, Dettmar Cramer. Paul Breitner, Sepp Maier, Peter Kupferschmidt, Bulle Roth, Jean-Marie Pfaff, Bixente Lizarazu and a host of other Bayern legends were there, on walls and in videos – and in flesh and blood. So it was that Wednesday’s grand opening of the FC Bayern Erlebniswelt really was, as the word literally translates, a world of experience.
“We’re proud to declare the Erlebniswelt officially open,“ Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told a star-studded audience, featuring VIP guests from sport, business and politics, including former Bavarian First Minister Dr. Edmund Stoiber. “Our aim was somehow to combine historical fact with feelings and emotions – and we’ve succeeded,“ the club chairman said.
