The best teams in Germany contest the first trophy of the new season when Bayern play Dortmund in the DFL Supercup this Sunday, but Wednesday's press conference at the Allianz Arena was a friendly and relaxed affair. Matthias Sammer was seated on the podium next to BVB director of sport Michael Zorc, “and we have a good and friendly relationship," the Dortmund man said, “we had successful years together as player, coach and sport director."
Nevertheless, both men are keen for their current clubs to win Sunday's clash. “It's still pre-season, but the Supercup is obviously an important game," commented Sammer, “we're looking forward to it, and naturally we want to win." The gold and silver trophy stood between the FCB board member for sport and Zorc at the press conference. The pair played together in the BVB team which won the annual curtain-raiser in 1996. “You get that feeling in your guts, you could win the first trophy," commented Zorc, although he echoed another of Sammer’s important provisos: “Despite that, both teams are still in the preparatory phase."
