Valencia's fortress

Bayern yet to win at famous Mestalla

The Mestalla Stadium in Valencia is one of football's true landmarks, an arena rich in tradition with three steeply raked tiers, the crowd hard up against the touchlines, and up to 53,000 passionate supporters. It is FC Valencia's home fortress, and the Spaniards believe it could hand them an edge in Tuesday evening’s clash. “Bayern Munich are one of the best teams in the world, but we have the Mestalla. We're unbeatable at home," said defender Adil Rami.

A glance at the stats shows just how strong Valencia are on their own turf. They have won seven, drawn one and lost none at home this season so far, and are unbeaten in their last eight Champions League matches at the Mestalla. The last European reverse dates back to 29 September 2009, when Manchester United came away with victory by the only goal of the game. The Spaniards have won their last four home matches in Europe's elite club competition.
