In his first three months with Bayern, Spanish World Cup and European championship winner Javi Martinez has steadily found his feet at Germany's biggest club, appearing in 15 of the 18 games so far. The utility man returns to his home country for the first time on Tuesday when FCB face Valencia, with no fewer than 50 of Javi's family and friends set to travel from the Basque country to offer their support.
Prior to departing for Spain, the 24-year-old sat down for an exclusive interview with fcbayern.de. Martinez talked about learning German, the differences between football in Germany and Spain, and about Tuesday evening’s clash with Valencia: “I'm really looking forward to the match, and I'm obviously hoping we'll hand them a first home defeat of the season."
Interview: Javi Martinez
fcbayern.de: Hello Javi, you've been in Munich for some three months now. How's your German coming along?
Javi Martinez: (in German) Very well, I'm learning very quickly. I have a private teacher and I attend a language school. I'm hoping to be near perfect in a couple of months.
