There are still five days until Christmas, but Bayern received a welcome early gift on Wednesday morning when one of the key players at the club committed his mid-term future to FCB. Youth product Thomas Müller signed a two-year extension to his current deal, binding him to the Bundesliga leaders until 30 June 2017.
“Thomas Müller came through the youth ranks at FC Bayern. We trained him here, and he's developed into a very important player for Bayern Munich," commented chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. During his time in the Bavarian capital, Müller has also “matured as a Germany international," Rummenigge continued. The versatile forward is approaching his 40th cap for the three-time World Cup winners. “His contract ran until 2015 in any case, but we're delighted to extend that by two years until 2017 at this early stage. It's also proof of Thomas Müller's commitment to FC Bayern," the chairman said.
Müller was only 11 when he left home town club TSV Pähl and joined the Bayern junior team. After representing the club at every youth level, he became a regular for the third division reserves and made his Bundesliga debut in August 2008. The 23-year-old finally made the breakthrough in the 2009/10 season, when he became a regular in the first team.
Müller has barely been out of the side since then, and has once again featured prominently this term. The Bavarian native is going through a purple patch with 21 scorer points in 25 appearances so far this season, comprising 13 goals and eight assists.
