The Bayern players, coaching staff and management left the Allianz Arena with mixed feelings on Saturday evening, as a healthy dollop of satisfaction was balanced by a tinge of regret. The 1-1 draw with Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga Clasico means the leaders remain 11 points clear of the champions, but FCB were left to rue a long string of potential match-winning chances in the closing stages.
“It was a wonderful game of football between two fantastic teams, and we'd have deserved the win by the end," summed up Bayern president Uli Hoeneß, “I'll enjoy the rest of the weekend, because I'm totally satisfied." Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge spoke of “a clash between equals" involving “the two best teams in the Bundesliga. I'm satisfied. We've maintained our lead on points."
