FCB vow to up their game against Mainz

Let's travel back in time to April 2012, when the big news at Bayern was Mario Gomez and Daniel van Buyten signing contract extensions, the announcement of Dante's arrival in the summer, and FCB edging past Real Madrid in the course of two tense and thrilling encounters. Nine months down the line, one other fact springs to mind: it was the month in which Bayern last failed to score in a competitive fixture, as the meeting with FSV Mainz on 14 April 2012 ended in a goalless draw. Some 37 matches later, Mainz again provide the opposition when the sides come to blows in the Bundesliga this Saturday.

“And it won't be an easy match," warned Van Buyten two days prior to the trip to the side lying fifth in the standings, who have lost only one of their last nine games on home turf (seven wins, one draw). Furthermore, FSV have won two of their last three home meetings with FCB. “We've had a very rough ride there recently," Van Buyten commented.
