Bayern junior pro Mitchell Weiser has joined FC Kaiserslautern on loan until 30 June 2013. The terms of the deal, agreed by the clubs on Wednesday, remain undisclosed. The 18-year-old wide player will now gain match practice with second division promotion contenders Kaiserslautern before returning to the Bundesliga leaders at the end of the season. Mitch, who has remained in Germany instead of travelling to the Doha training camp, joined Bayern last summer from FC Köln, but has spent most of the time since then in FCB’s fourth division reserves.
Major honour for Ribéry
Franck Ribéry has been named best player of the first half of the Bundesliga season, after receiving 35.3 percent of the votes in a poll conducted by kicker magazine among 224 fellow top-flight pros. The France international, who has four goals and seven assists so far this term, comfortably finished ahead of Dortmund striker Marco Reus (13.4 percent).
Mandzukic named Croatia’s best
Bayern striker Mario Mandzukic has been voted Croatia’s Player of the Year for 2012. In the run-up to Christmas, FCB youth product David Alaba was named Austrian Player of the Year for the second time in succession.
