Clash of the titans on eve of new season

This summer’s fifth edition of the popular Telekom Cup will feature a stellar line-up comprising four of the biggest clubs in Germany. Bayern, Borussia Dortmund, Hamburg and hosts Borussia Mönchengladbach have signed up to do battle at Borussia Park in Mönchengladbach on 20 and 21 July 2013 in the now traditional curtain-raiser to the new German season.

One of the highlights of the weekend takes place on the Saturday at 6.30 pm when FCB take on Dortmund. Will new Munich boss Pep Guardiola's influence already be in evidence? Will BVB be in a position to mount a serious challenge next term? The first clues will be on display at the Telekom Cup.

More than a mere form check

The tournament opens at 4.45 pm on Saturday when Gladbach take on Hamburg. The Sunday programme is bound to stretch the hosts and HSV, as the first match is the third-place play-off between the previous day's losers, before the final for the first trophy of the 2013/14 campaign rounds off the weekend.

“It's fantastic that the first clash between Bayern and Dortmund in the new season is to take place at the Telekom Cup. This fixture alone is a real treat for football fans around the world, including neutrals – and it's so much more than a mere form check," commented Telekom director of sport sponsorship Hiro Kishi.

Family-friendly ticket prices

As in previous years, each match comprises two 30-minute halves. There will be no extra time, so games which end in a draw will be immediately decided in a penalty shootout.

The weekend also features a colourful and wide-ranging supporting programme. As always, tickets to the Telekom Cup will be offered at family–friendly prices. Ticket sales are scheduled to start in early May. Further information about the tournament will shortly be posted at www.telekom.de/cup.
