Reaction to the 23rd title triumph by FCB

Never before in 50 years of the Bundesliga has a team won the German championship as early as FC Bayern this season, with fully six games of the 34 still to go. It's no wonder that after the championship in Frankfurt on Saturday all the people who were interviewed believe that Munich’s 23rd title win was well-earned. fcbayern.de has collated reaction to the fastest championship win of all time.

Reaction of former FCB coaches

Ottmar Hitzfeld: “I congratulate FC Bayern on the championship, in this season they’ve managed an incredible achievement. It’s fantastic what Bayern have achieved regarding the many records they’ve broken. In the past two years they’ve attracted the right coaches and developed ten percent more of the killer instinct that was previously missing, as well as a performance-based mentality.”

Udo Lattek: “He (Jupp Heynckes) has taken the management of each player seriously, and they took advantage of that. So in my opinion he’s the father of Bayern’s 23rd championship.”

Felix Magath: “FC Bayern have rarely presented themselves with such complete unity. The players respected each other – a necessary component for success, which was not noticeably present in past years.”

Jürgen Klinsmann: “I congratulate Bayern Munich on the championship. The title is an expression of a brilliant achievement in the championship across the whole season, and it shows the superiority of Bayern this year. I can’t remember an achievement as good as this by a football team, neither in Germany nor Italy, France or England.”

Reaction from the Bundesliga

Hans-Joachim Watzke (Borussia Dortmund CEO): “Congratulations to FC Bayern – they’re having an outstanding season! They’re totally deserving champions, so you can only praise them.”

Max Eberl (Borussia Mönchengladbach general manager): “I really congratulate the club of my youth on their 23rd German championship. Fully earned – the best team won.”

Rudi Völler (Bayer Leverkusen Sporting Director): “Congratulations to Jupp Heynckes, assistant coach Peter Hermann and the rest of the team. A truly well played season, they deserve to be the champions. Outstanding!”

Stefan Reuter (FC Augsburg general manager): “Congratulations! They’ve played amazingly this season – very deserving German champions!”

Jürgen Klopp (Borussia Dortmund coach): “Very well done Bayern! Jupp, that was an extraordinary season. Your team did nearly everything right. I hope we can reduce the gap a little in the coming season.”

Armin Veh (Eintracht Frankfurt coach): “FC Bayern absolutely deserved this. They’ve played great football this season, with much passion and class.”

Sascha Lewandowski (Bayer Leverkusen coach): “This really is a giant achievement, so they deserve much respect. It makes us proud that we actually won in Munich.”

Further reaction

Dirk Nowitzki (NBA professional): “Congratulations to FC Bayern. Amazingly played season”

Usain Bolt (Olympic sprinting champion): “What Bayern have shown this season has been impressive. It’s extraordinary that they’ve become the champions with such a gap – so early - in such a strong league. The players should enjoy every moment. If they wait a little longer to have a party, perhaps they’ll have a couple more reasons to celebrate in the summer.”
