Bayern recorded an ultimately clear-cut 6-1 victory over VfL Wolfsburg in Tuesday's DFB Cup semi-final, a late Mario Gomez hat-trick and goals from Mario Mandzukic, Arjen Robben and man of the match Xherdan Shaqiri sealing FCB’s berth in the final on 1 June. “It's been a wonderful evening," declared Shaq, “we put in a really good performance, had the game under control, and we've deservedly made the final."
Reaction to the cup semi-final against Wolfsburg:
Matthias Sammer: “We're very satisfied. Shaqiri is the man of the match, he was world class today. However, in the first half and for part of the second half, Van Buyten was very often abandoned. He wasn't offered enough from midfield. But the coach used some choice words at half time, and also made the right substitutions. For the first hour, we had plenty of problems when we didn't have the ball.”
Jupp Heynckes: “We’ve seen a very good semi-final today. Wolfsburg were strong opponents who matched us for long periods. We were better in defence after half-time, and that's the be-all and end-all in modern football. We’ll always make an impact up front. All of us want to win the cup, but it's not as easy as it looks. That was very hard work today.”
