Over 170,000 turn out to hail ‘Super Bayern’

Bayern's motorcade of champions struggled to make progress on Saturday night, not due to any fault with the Audi vehicles, but due to the 150,000 supporters thronging the Munich streets. When the stars finally reached Marienplatz, a further 20,000 frenzied fans cheered deafeningly when their heroes eventually made their long-awaited appearance on the Town Hall balcony at just after 9 pm. “I judge from your wild enthusiasm that you've been starving, that it feels like ten years since you were last here," said Jupp Heynckes in a short address to the crowd, before offering a promise: “We'll do everything we can on the 25th to achieve what we're all dreaming of!"

Club captain Philipp Lahm also looked ahead to the Champions League final when he took the microphone: “We're not finished yet. We want two more trophies." On the balcony, Javi Martinez told FCB.tv: “We're champions, but we’ll be back here in two weeks!"
