The shield, the Weissbier, the unbounded joy

The team spirit Jupp Heynckes has instilled in his players this season came back to bite him on Saturday. Just minutes after the ceremonial handover of the Bundesliga shield and the obligatory group pose for the photographers, the head coach attempted to slip away unseen from his men, but there was no escaping Anatoliy Tymoshchuk at the head of a posse of stars, all of them armed with oversized glasses brimming with Paulaner Weissbier. And in traditional Bayern style, Heynckes was duly soaked to the skin, first by Tymo, then Luiz Gustavo, Jerome Boateng, Dante, Daniel van Buyten, and last but not least Bastian Schweinsteiger.

“You'd normally need to show a clean pair of heels, but I can't any more. If you try but you're not well trained, you might pull a muscle, and I didn't want that. Instead, I accepted there'd be a showering," reflected the 68-year-old after the first Weissbier soaking of his long coaching and playing career.
