Sammer: Treble is the icing on the cake

A 3–2 victory over Stuttgart not only sealed the DFB Cup for Bayern, but also completed a historic first-ever treble for a German team. “It's unbelievable and historic for the whole club, the team and the fans," declared Franck Ribéry after the final whistle at Berlin Olympic Stadium. Boss Jupp Heynckes, a cup winner as a coach for the first time, spoke of “an emotional moment. This treble is unique."

Reaction to the DFB Cup final 2013:

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge: “It was a very emotional match. It seemed to be all over at 3-0. After Stuttgart pulled one back they staged a magnificent comeback. It was very tense after they made it 3-2. But it was just enough, and we're overjoyed.”

Matthias Sammer: “There were a couple of spells where we failed to live up to our high footballing standards, but that’s only human just a week after the Champions League final. Jupp Heynckes has now received the recognition he deserves. His hallmarks are clarity, planning, attention to detail, work rate and wisdom. The treble is only the icing on the cake.”

Jupp Heynckes: “It's an emotional moment. As everyone can see, we're a superb collective and a superb team. And the players have given me a fantastic gift. This treble is unique.”
