Blue skies, VIP guests and top-notch youth football were on the menu when the FC Bayern Youth Cup came to its conclusion in an exciting tournament at the Allianz Arena last week. Watched closely by Bastian Schweinsteiger, previous year’s winners Italy defended their crown, consigning Germany to second spot, although by the end, everyone involved could consider themselves a winner.
Seven representative national teams battled for the honours, with the group of watching FC Bayern youth coaches joined by Schweinsteiger and Paul Breitner, who had previously led the selection process for the finals in a series of preliminary eliminators in school and community organisations. There was a great atmosphere at the stadium thanks to the presence of selected school classes, who not only observed the finals but also posed for souvenir snaps with the FCB and Germany midfielder.
