Big man Kirchhoff sees potential to grow

This much is true: Pep Guardiola looks up to him. Not many folk at the club can say that after just a week of pre-season at Bayern, but dozens of photographers captured the moment for posterity. At the first training session, when newcomer Jan Kirchhoff and the FCB coach posed next to each other, the 1.80 m Guardiola stood next to the 1.94 m centre half, and looked up into the player's eyes with a broad grin on his face.

The coach is clearly delighted with the second-tallest player in the squad, and the club is just as excited. “We see him as having outstanding potential," confirmed Matthias Sammer at the new arrival’s official unveiling on Tuesday. The signing of Kirchhoff as the first addition to the squad for the coming campaign was announced back in January. “He's young, talented, and very interesting to us because of his vision of the game," continued the board director for sport.
