Sammer: Players are ‘obviously still hungry’

It is almost two months since the unforgettable night when Bayern travelled to Wembley and claimed the Champions League, their fourth trophy of a historic season, and there have been a few changes at the club in the intervening period. Pep Guardiola has taken over from Jupp Heynckes, new signings Mario Götze and Thiago have come in, and there is a different feel to training. But one thing definitely has not changed in the slightest, the utter desire for more silverware. An early indication of the continuing hunger came on Sunday, when Bayern strode majestically to victory in the annual Telekom Cup.

Naturally, the context is important, as it was only a reduced scale warm-up tournament, but Bayern's performances in beating Hamburg 4-0 and hosts Mönchengladbach 5-1 have raised expectations of a successful 2013/14 campaign. “All credit to Pep and the team, because they're pulling together and not giving the impression they're tired of success. Instead, they’re obviously still hungry," Matthias Sammer told on Monday.
