Thiago's first workout, Schweinsteiger returns

The fans flocked to the Säbener Strasse facility on Wednesday morning, but that is hardly unusual when Bayern hold an open training session. But the crowd of some 2,000 did get to see something new in the shape of Thiago, the Spaniard with Brazilian roots, who trained with his new team-mates for the first time. The midfielder emerged from the dressing room at just before 10 am and worked out for the next 95 minutes.

He sought contact with Xherdan Shaqiri, and he swapped a joke with Thomas Müller, as the 22-year-old began the process of acclimatising to a new squad. Thiago, named best player at the recent UEFA U-21 EURO, showed plenty of inborn footballing quality in a range of match situation exercises and passing drills. “He's a very, very gifted footballer, who has everything you need to become one of the greats," Bastian Schweinsteiger told FCB.tv, “we’re delighted we've acquired a player of his quality."
