Thriving Robben in fine early-season form

If it had been up to his physiotherapist, Arjen Robben would not have played on Friday evening. “He jokingly said to me: don't try it until October or November, because by then, you won't have any problems," the Dutchman once said. Fortunately, the player took the opposite opinion and was a key member of the Bayern side on Friday evening as the champions opened the new Bundesliga season with a 3-1 victory over Mönchengladbach. The Dutch ace made an essential contribution too, scoring the opening goal and having a hand in the other two.

The 29-year-old set off for home “satisfied", as he said afterwards, although he is well aware the team is far from its full potential yet: “It's normal. You always have to adapt slightly when a new coach comes in, and that takes time." But Arjen is very confident: “We'll get even better over the next few weeks."
