Lay-off for Martínez after groin op

Midfielder Javi Martínez has successfully undergone surgery on a troublesome groin injury. The Spanish international reported for the operation on Tuesday afternoon. A surgical repair became necessary after the 25-year-old complained of persistent pain in the adductor muscles. Martínez will be unavailable for selection by Pep Guardiolafor several weeks.

Bayern back in training

Two days after the benefit match in Passau, a much-reduced senior squad reported back for training on Tuesday.First team players Tom Starke, Diego Contento, Jan Kirchhoff and Rafinhawere joined by talented youngsters from the BayernU-19 in the session supervised by Pep Guardiola.No fewer than 13 members of the senior squad are away on international duty,and the FCB reserves,who normally bulk out the training group during international breaks,play a league match in Schweinfurt in the evening.

FCB pass eight million fans on Facebook

Bayernhave increased their dominant position among German football clubs on Facebook, when the number of FCB followers passed the eight million mark on Sunday lunchtime.The club’s Facebook pages now have more followers than all other German clubs put together, with the treble winners gaining more than three million new fans on Facebook in the last 10 months.To celebrate, we’re calling on fans to enter a competition to design a new banner for the club’s Facebook presence.Simply create an appropriate banner (size: 851x315 pixel)and send it to facebook@fcb.de.We’ll compile a shortlist, and then put it to the vote on Facebook.

DFB Fair Play medal for Heynckes

Jupp Heynckeshas been awarded the German FA (DFB)Fair Play medal.“Especially last season, he emphatically demonstratedthat he believes success and fair play belong closely together,”said DFB President Wolfgang Niersbachin advance of Friday’s official presentation ceremony.The accolade recognises Heynckes’ fair and exemplary behaviour as a player and coach throughout his long career.The former Bayern boss believes fair play is just as important as the laws of the game.“The different characters in a team have to fit together,so you need a framework.Discipline and fair play provide the framework,” commented Heynckes, who led FCB to an unprecedented treble last term.

UEFA Youth League match schedule finalised

The BayernU-19 senior youth team will contest the new UEFA Youth Leaguethis season,playing their counterparts from the clubs Bayern meet in the Champions League in a schedule parallel to the first team. Marc Kienle’sside open their campaign on 17 Septemberagainst CSKA Moscow (Stadion Heimstetten).The FCB juniors visit Manchester on 2 October,before meeting Viktoria Plzen on 23 October (Grünwalder Stadion)and then travelling to the Czech Republic for the return on 5 November.The trip to Moscow is on 27 November,with the Manchester City U-19s due in Munich on 10 December.
