It was far from Bayern’s best display of the season, but the treble winners ultimately came away from Sinsheim with three crucial points as Bundesliga leaders. “Not everything was perfect,” observed coach Pep Guardiola, “but we did have a little bit of luck.” Karl-Heinz Rummenigge described the victory away to Hoffenheim as “hard going. At the end of the day, we can be very pleased we’ve gone on and won it 2-1.”
Reaction to Hoffenheim v Bayern
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge:“As we’ve seen often enough in the past, our results here have always been tight. It was very hard going. At the end of the day, we can be pleased we’ve gone on and won it 2-1.”
Josep Guardiola: “It certainly wasn’t our best performance, but we’ve won it. Not everything was perfect, and we’ll need to correct the way we’re playing. Meetings with Hoffenheim in recent years have always been close, but we did have a little bit of luck today.”
Manuel Neuer: “Their goal was my fault, and I don’t know how it can be happening. I handed it to TSG on a plate. But we fought back well and made it 1-1, and then took the lead in the second half. We deserved it because we had plenty of good chances.”
Mario Götze:“We’re somehow finding it tough to get going in all our matches – although you have to say we basically shut them out in the first half. But we created very few clear-cut chances of our own. I don’t know why that is. But then we’ve conceded an unlucky goal and we were left chasing the game again. Obviously it’s not such a wonderful situation.”
Markus Gisdol (Hoffenheim coach): “We held our own well against Bayern, but everything has to be perfect if you want to make it even harder for them. You can’t have them equalising with a deflected shot like that. I have mixed feelings now. On the one hand I’m delighted we had Bayern on the back foot, but on the other we’ve come away empty-handed.”
Niklas Süle (Hoffenheim scorer):“We gave a good account of ourselves against the best team in the world. We held them off well and we had chances of our own. But Bayern have the quality you need to go on and score the winning goal.”
