Despite a 3-2 defeat, Bayern still finished the group stage in first place: there were mixed feelings in Munich after the final Champions League match against Manchester City. “It's never good to lose,” Pep Guardiola said, but did mention the positive aspects. “At the end of the day, we have to be happy that we’ve won the group,” Thomas Müller added.
Reaction to Bayern v Manchester City:
Pep Guardiola: ”Congratulations to Manchester City. However, I must also congratulate my players, who’ve qualified for the next round in first place. While it's never good to lose, maybe a defeat is precisely what this team, these coaches and these players need, to know how hard it is to win all these games, both in the Bundesliga and in Europe. We are a fantastic team. However we will also lose games, because other teams, players and coaches are also great.”
Philipp Lahm: ”We have to do better. Thankfully, we can live with this loss.”
Thomas Müller: ”The second half was peculiar. At the end of the day, we have to be happy that we’ve won the group.”
Manuel Pellegrini (Manchester City coach): ”It was a very important game for us. Winning in Munich, especially after being 2-0 down, gives us a lot of confidence for the future. I am very happy for the team.”
