Manuel Neuer seems destined to succeed at whatever he does. Following Sunday morning training in Qatar the newly-crowned best goalkeeper in the world took part in an interview seemingly set for the record books, as Manu answered questions - many of them in English - for 11.4 million Bayern fans! It was all made possible by Bayern’s Facebook team: the club world champions broke new ground by staging a virtual Meet and Greet with one of the stars on the social media site.
Neuer spent almost an hour responding to the fans, who submitted an astonishing 3,500 questions from all over the planet. The world number one personally described the online event as “outstanding”. He also gave exclusive glimpses into his thoughts and feelings: Neuer hopes FCB can “prove last year was no one-off” in 2014, but also revealed a few details about his time at school. Curiously enough, the man who is the best keeper in the world actually wanted to play outfield when he joined his first club at the age of four.
The 27-year-old and his team-mates “really enjoyed our near-perfect 2013” and are now determined to maintain their form into the New Year, although there is no guarantee this season will be just as successful as the last. It is a huge ask especially in the Champions League: “We’re the holders so we’re among the favourites, but you need two very good days to beat the other favourites in the knockout stages,” Manuel warned. That naturally includes the upcoming meeting with Arsenal, who he feels are “a very strong team”.
