Lay-off for injured Shaqiri

Xherdan Shaqiri scored his first Bundesliga brace in the 4-0 victory over Freiburg, but there was a bitter aftertaste to the afternoon for the Swiss schemer as he was forced off with injury after 61 minutes. A post-match medical showed that the player ruptured a muscle in the back of his right thigh. Shaq will now definitely miss the Champions League Round of 16 first leg away to Arsenal on Wednesday and the following Sunday’s Bundesliga trip to Hannover.

Win number 200 for Pizarro

Claudio Pizarro has passed yet another milestone in his illustrious career. Saturday’s 4-0 victory over Freiburg was the FCB striker’s 200th win in the Bundesliga, more than any other currently active player! The Peruvian now has 361 appearances to his name, the most by any non-German player in Bundesliga history, and is in any case the leading non-German goalscorer in the German top flight. Pizza took his total up to 169 with his 88th-minute strike against Freiburg.

Martínez' record runs

Javi Martínez maintained a unique run on Saturday. The Freiburg clash was his 35th Bundesliga appearance, but he has yet to lose in the German top flight (32 wins, 3 draws). The Spaniard boasts another league record: his last 20 Bundesliga games have all ended in wins.

Focus on Arsenal

The dust had barely settled on Saturday’s meeting with Freiburg before Bayern turned their focus to the upcoming Champions League clash away to Arsenal in North London. The FCB subs and squad players completed a training session at the Allianz Arena, while the players from the starting line-up warmed down. Pep Guardiola subsequently gave his players Sunday off.
