Milestone meeting between FCB and ‘96

When Bayern visit Hannover 96 on Sunday the teams will celebrate a shared milestone. The clash at 5.30 pm in the Lower Saxony capital is the 50th Bundesliga meeting between the clubs. The current runaway league leaders have the superior record in the fixture with 32 wins, eight draws and nine defeats.

Munich’s winning streak

The champions boast a near-perfect record in recent meetings with the men from Lower Saxony. FCB have won the last four Bundesliga clashes, scoring 15 goals and conceding only two. If Guardiola’s team take three points on Sunday it would be their fifth straight league victory over H96 and FCB’s best-ever streak against Hannover. The treble winners also beat Sunday’s opponents earlier this season in the DFB Cup: the meeting at the Allianz Arena in September 2013 ended 4-1.

Good record in Lower Saxony

Despite Munich’s overall positive record against Hannover the Club World Champions have struggled at the HDI Arena recently. Two of the last three matches away to Hannover ended in Bayern defeats, the champions’ worst streak against any current Bundesliga club. However, Munich’s overall away record is positive: of 24 previous trips to Lower Saxony the Bavarians have gone home with all three points on ten occasions. That was emphatically the case from the most recent running of the fixture in April 2013, when the freshly-crowned champions handed down a 6-1 thrashing.
