When Manchester United visit the Allianz Arena next Wednesday for the Champions League quarter-final return, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Javi Martínez will be condemned to the role of spectators. In the first leg at Old Trafford, Schweinsteiger was dismissed for a second bookable offence in the 90th minute, with Martínez earlier picking up a third yellow card of the competition. On the plus side Dante is eligible again next week after serving a one-match ban on Tuesday.
Robben named 'Man of the Match'
Arjen Robben was named Man of the Match in the meeting with Manchester United. UEFA’s expert jury and fans voting on uefa.com confirmed the accolade for the Dutchman. Robben was at the heart of many of Bayern’s best attacking moves and easily topped the charts for shots at goal with six – equalling the entire Manchester United total on the night.
Milestones for Ribéry and Götze
Franck Ribéry made his 50th Champions League appearance on Tuesday evening at Old Trafford, all of them in Bayern colours. The UEFA Best Player in Europe has been directly involved in 29 goals (14 goals, 15 assists). Mario Götze also passed a milestone against Manchester United. He came on as a 74th minute sub and made his 25th Champions League appearance (7 for Bayern) – at the age of just 21! Götze has had a hand in 13 goals (5 goals, 8 assists).
