The number of injured players at Bayern went up by one on Saturday night when Xherdan Shaqiri joined Thiago, Diego Contento, Tom Starke, Lukas Raeder and Holger Badstuber among the players currently unavailable for selection.
The Swiss international was substituted at half-time in Bayern’s away Bundesliga meeting with Augsburg on Saturday afternoon. The midfielder reported to Dr Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt’s practice in the evening, where the FCB Chief Medical Officer diagnosed a badly torn muscle in the right thigh. Shaqiri will be sidelined until further notice.
It means Pep Guardiola is without a total of eight players for Wednesday night’s Champions League quarter-final return at home to Manchester United. Apart from the injured stars, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Javi Martínez are suspended for the game. "It's a bitter disappointment given the current situation," commented Manuel Neuer.
