The close season tour of the USA will be the high point of pre-season for FC Bayern. The Reds announced last December that the fixture against the Major League Soccer (MLS) All-Stars will be played on 6 August 2014. The second match on the USA tour has now been confirmed: Audi have invited last season’s treble winners to play Mexican side Club Deportivo Guadalajara, commonly known as Chivas, on 31 July. The Audi Football Summit will be played at the Red Bull Arena in New Jersey.

“We're very happy to be organising the USA tour with our long-standing partner Audi,” commented FCB board director Jörg Wacker. Bayern are crossing the Atlantic for the first time since 2004. On this occasion the Reds will set up camp in New York City for four days. “New York City is a perfect venue on our USA tour. We set opened first overseas office there in April,” explained Wacker.

FC Bayern have over 15 million supporters in the United States. “They will have the chance to catch up with their favourite club during the tour,” added Wacker. Audi of America President Scott Keogh said: “There is rapidly growing interest in top international football in the USA. We are very proud to host FC Bayern Munich, one of the most famous and successful teams in the world. It's an honour to stage the Audi Football Summit. We’re already looking forward to an exciting football match.”

Mexico's most popular club

The match at the Red Bull Arena in New Jersey, 30 minutes drive from New York City, will be the third Audi Football Summit. The first was played in January 2012 when Bayern faced the India national team in New Delhi. The second edition in July 2012 featured FCB versus VfL Wolfsburg in Guangzhou, China.

This year's opponents are Club Deportivo Guadalajara. Chivas are one of the oldest and most successful clubs in Mexico with 11 league titles, and only include Mexican players in their squad. “We are happy to be involved in an event of this magnitude,” said Chivas sporting director Juan Francisco Palencia, “the most popular team in Mexico is taking on the European champions.” The match on 31 July kicks off at 8 pm local time (2 am CET).
