Hojbjerg returns to work early

Two days prior to the official start of pre-season training at Bayern on 9 July, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has joined the group of early starters. The 18-year-old Dane returned from vacation on Monday and worked out with the ball at his feet at the Säbener Strasse training facility. David Alaba, Holger Badstuber, Sebastian Rode and Tom Starke were also gearing up for Wednesday's restart.

Nine FCB stars in World Cup semis

There is a strong Bayern flavour to the semi-finals at the World Cup in Brazil as Germany's most successful club are supplying a total of nine players to the teams in the last four, more than any other club. Alongside Germany internationals Manuel Neuer, Philipp Lahm, Jerome Boateng, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Toni Kroos, Mario Götze and Thomas Müller, Dante of Brazil and Arjen Robben of the Netherlands will also compete for a place in the Final. Chelsea and Rotterdam-based Feyenoord are joint second in the ranking with five players each. Apart from Bayern, only Real Madrid have players in three of the four semi-final teams (Sami Khedira/Germany, Angel di María/Argentina, Marcelo/Brazil).

Quote of the day

“We know Dante inside out: we know all his strengths and weaknesses, and he knows ours – apart from Thomas Müller, because with him, you never know.”
