Holders drawn away to Hamburg

Bayern have been handed a challenging trip to top flight rivals Hamburg in this season’s DFB Cup second round. In Saturday evening’s draw, made on Pay TV by Germany’s U-19 European championship-winning coach Marcus Sorg and Mexican-German TV reporter Vanessa Huppenkothen, who shot to prominence at the World Cup in Brazil, 17-time cup winners FCB were 18th out of the hat and were sent on their travels to their long-term northern rivals.

The second round tie, a repeat of last season’s quarter-final, will be played on 28 or 29 October. A total of 32 teams made it into the draw for the DFB Cup second round, 13 from the Bundesliga, 14 from Bundesliga 2 and four from the lower leagues.
