The Bayern stars were probably taken aback by the lack of hustle and bustle at the Säbener Strasse facility on Sunday morning, because the midday training session was closed to the public. It meant there were no fans or camera teams to observe the first session involving the entire squad since May 2014. It was also a complete contrast to the previous day when 65,500 devoted fans frenetically celebrated their heroes at the team presentation event in the Allianz Arena.
“You can't put the feeling into words,” reflected David Alaba after the enthusiasm and passion surrounding the Allianz FC Bayern Team Presentation. “I know our fans are fantastic, and they showed it yet again on Saturday.” Xherdan Shaqiri said: “We all enjoyed it a lot, and I think the spectators did too!”
“It was madness,” agreed Bastian Schweinsteiger, “running out into such a great stadium in front of a full house restores your appetite for football straightaway.” The World Cup winner stuck to light exercise on Sunday, just like Arjen Robben, who joined Schweinsteiger and Franck Ribéry (knee) in the Performance Center. The rest of the players broke sweat for a full 90 minutes in the scorching midday sun.
“We're all totally motivated and want to get back into it very quickly,” declared World Cup winner Jérôme Boateng, “we’re looking forward to the new season.” The first highlight comes up on Wednesday with the DFL Supercup final against BVB in Dortmund, and the game is now the exclusive focus for the playing and coaching staff. “We'll prepare as well as we can for the match,” stated Alaba, “we want to put into practice what we've worked on in pre-season.”
