Diego Contento has left FC Bayern and signed for French top-flight club Girondins Bordeaux. The 24-year-old left-back will now be coached in Ligue 1 by former FCB star Willy Sagnol. Contento, who joined Munich as a five-year-old and spent a total of 19 years at the club, inked a four-year contract with Bordeaux on Tuesday after completing the obligatory pre-transfer medical.
Alaba biography released in Germany
Bayern shooting star David Alaba is already the subject of a German-language biography. The 84-page Sportmagazin Gold Edition David Alaba provides answers to many questions relating to the club and the player: Why did he roam his home city of Vienna in a Bayern shirt at the age of just six? What is the real reason why he stepped up to take a penalty in Madrid? How far does Bastian Schweinsteiger think he can go? The volume also includes previously unreleased photo material, insights into David’s personal life and character, and a giant pull-out poster of the player in the latest club kit.
Refs say no to vanishing spray for now
Vanishing spray at set plays will not feature in the official Bundesliga opener between champions FC Bayern and visiting VfL Wolfsburg on 22 August. “Introducing [the spray] right at the start of the Bundesliga season would be at too short notice, especially as use of the vanishing spray was not part of the pre-season seminar for referees in Grassau am Chiemsee a few weeks ago,” the German FA (DFB) refereeing committee announced on Tuesday. Meeting on Monday, the League Association called for the introduction of the spray at the earliest possible point in time, naming the restart fixture in the top-flight as the preferred date.
