FCB fast out of the blocks

A good omen for FC Bayern ahead of Wednesday night’s first group match in the Champions League against Manchester City: FCB have won all of their previous ten opening games in the Champions League including eight without conceding a goal. Last season’s European campaign began with a convincing 3-0 home win against CSKA Moscow. The last defeat came at the start of the  2002/03 season at home to Deportivo La Coruna (2-3). The three goals were scored by Roy Makaay who went on to ply his striker’s trade at Bayern.

Fifth clash with Man City

FC Bayern and Manchester City meet for the fifth time in three years in a competitive competition on Wednesday night. With two wins each, one home and one away, the record between the teams is relatively balanced to date. The goal difference is 7-6 in favour of Bayern.

Bayern v England

FC Bayern have struggled at home to English clubs at the Allianz Arena. Including the 2012 Final against Chelsea, Bayern have only won of the last five games against teams from England on their own turf with the other games ending in two draws and two defeats. The most recent victory for FCB was a 3-1 win against Manchester United last March in the quarter-final second leg. The overall record for FC Bayern against English teams in the Champions League is positive: 26 matches have produced eleven wins, eight draws and seven defeats.
