Pep Guardiola welcomed back a clutch of his international players on Wednesday, with a warm embrace for Arjen Robben and a relaxed chat with Thomas Müller. Most of the stars who had spent the last ten days representing their countries resumed training at the Säbener Strasse facility in the afternoon.
However, the programme was tailored according to the players’ individual needs: the Germany contingent, Medhi Benatia and Xherdan Shaqiri took to mountain bikes, but Robben joined the group for squad drills on the practice ground. Their number included Juan Bernat and David Alaba, who had already reported back to the club on Tuesday.
The only man still missing was Claudio Pizarro. The Peru international was on duty for his country in the early hours of the European Wednesday morning in a 1-0 friendly victory over Guatemala.
