Thiago takes next step

There was a pleasant surprise for the fans who flocked to the Säbener Strasse facility on a beautiful late summer’s Thursday: for the first time since sustaining serious knee ligament damage, Thiago completed part of the squad training session. The Spain international, who last featured for Bayern back in March, took part in a five-against-two drill and practised passing with his team-mates. He then reported to fitness specialist Lorenzo Buenaventura and resumed his individual training schedule on an adjacent pitch.

More than four million fans in China

FC Bayern are an increasingly popular draw in China. Germany’s biggest club now boasts more than four million fans and followers on top Chinese social media platforms Tencent and Sina Weibo and WhatsApp counterpart WeChat. Just like the western-oriented social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Google+, fans in the Far East benefit from the very latest news and behind-the-scenes glimpses into life at their favourite club. FCB’s service to the fans in China includes up to the minute images and videos, and news clips produced exclusively for the channels.

Pfaff to collect Golden Foot Award

Jean-Marie Pfaff, former FC Bayern goalkeeper for many years, will receive the Golden Foot Award in Monte Carlo on Saturday. Pfaff will be presented the award, voted by a panel of European journalists for outstanding career performances, by Prince Albert II of Monaco and Brazil legend Pelé. Gerd Müller (2007), Karl-Heinz Rummenigge (2009), Franz Beckenbauer (2010) and Lothar Matthäus (2012) are the four former FCB pros to have already received the award.

Quote of the day

“Everybody was issuing their battle cries. We agreed on a draw with a win for Germany.”
(FCB star Thomas Müller on the pre-match banter with team-mate Robert Lewandowski prior to Germany’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Poland.)
