AS Roma warmed up for Tuesday’s Champions League tie against FC Bayern with a comfortable 3-0 Serie A victory over Chievo Verona on Saturday. The men from the Italian capital returned to winning ways after two matches without a victory and tightened their grip on second spot in the Italian top flight, a point off leaders Juventus.
Roma took to the Stadio Olimpico turf as favourites against the side lying 16th in the standings and soon lived up to their pre-match billing. Mattia Destro struck the early opener from a fourth-minute corner, before Adem Ljajic fired into the far corner to double the lead on 25 minutes. Veteran Francesco Totti tucked away a 33rd-minute penalty to effectively wrap up the points with little over half-an-hour played.
Home boss Rudi Garcia was without centre-back Kostas Manolas, currently serving a ban for a red card in Serie A, and midfielder Seydou Keita, who returned from international duty with a calf injury and is reported likely to miss the Bayern game. Striker Gervinho spent the 90 minutes on the bench with Totti and Pjanic substituted midway through the second period.
