Ribéry and Rafinha out of restart clash

On the eve of the Bundesliga restart fixture away to VfL Wolfsburg, FC Bayern have suffered an injury blow on the news that injuries sustained by Franck Ribéry and Rafinha in training on Wednesday afternoon are serious enough to force both key players to the sidelines.

Ribéry tore a muscle in the back of his right thigh and will definitely miss three matches: Friday’s clash with the team lying second in the table, the home meeting with Schalke the following Tuesday and the trip to VfB Stuttgart four days later.

The 31-year-old Frenchman will be unable to train for the next few days but should be fit enough to go jogging from next Wednesday. If all goes according to plan, Ribéry should be able to resume the squad programme at the start of the week after next.

Right-back Rafinha sprained the lateral collateral ligament in his left ankle and will also be unable to train for around two weeks.
