FCB turn focus to Schalke
The sun beat down at the Säbener Strasse facility on Sunday as FC Bayern began preparing for Tuesday’s clash with Schalke 04 at the Allianz Arena (kick-off 20:00). Pep Guardiola supervised a group of 20 players for training, including all the stars from the matchday squad for the restart fixture at Wolfsburg last Friday. “Our motivation to make amends on Tuesday is very strong,” Thomas Müller told FCB.tv. The final training workout prior to the first home game of the new year is a closed session on Monday.
Huntelaar misses out for Schalke
Schalke 04 will be without top striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar for Tuesday’s trip to Munich. The Dutchman was red-carded for serious foul play after 85 minutes of the Royal Blues’ 1-0 victory over Hannover on Saturday and serves an automatic ban. Injury also deprives Roberto di Matteo’s team of Ralf Fährmann (cruciate), Dennis Aogo (torn muscle), Leon Goretzka (torn muscle), Sead Kolasinac (cruciate), Jefferson Farfan (cartilage) and World Cup winner Julian Draxler (tendons).
