‘We’ll have to be careful’
Bayern have been drawn to face FC Porto in the Champions League quarter-finals. "It could have been worse," reflected Thomas Müller immediately after Friday's last eight draw. However, FCB will not underestimate the side currently lying second in the Portuguese table. "Porto have already shown their class," said captain Philipp Lahm, "they play very good football."
Reaction to Friday's draw
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge: "It's not a bad draw, although we mustn't underestimate our opponents. Porto finished top of their group and beat Basel fairly easily in the last sixteen, especially in the 4-0 win in the return in Portugal. On the other hand, if you look at Paris versus Barcelona and the Madrid derby between Real and Atlético, those are the top games in terms of the teams involved. Our target is the semi-finals, but we'll need two good games if we're to get there."
Matthias Sammer: "It won't be simple. Porto have yet to lose and they put four past Basel in the Round of 16 return. We need to approach the game with modesty and humility, but also with confidence. We need a top performance and have to maintain our good recent level."
Pep Guardiola: "We can expect a great atmosphere in a fantastic stadium. They're physically strong with very quick forwards. They have a young team and they've yet to lose in the Champions League. It's a quarter-final and there are no easy games. It's always tough but we'll give it everything."
Philipp Lahm: "There are certainly more awkward opponents. We'll try to come home with a better away result than in the Round of 16, as that would give us a good chance of going through. But Porto have showed their class. They play very good football and don't just pull everyone back. They like to have the ball, they're skilful and have quick players."
Manuel Neuer: "I had a good experience against Porto: I played them with Schalke and we went through on penalties. But they're still undefeated. All the teams still in the competition are top class. We mustn't underestimate them. The atmosphere there is intimidating and fantastic. It won't be easy in front of their home crowd."
Thomas Müller: "It could have been worse and we're pleased with the draw. But we'll have to be careful, Porto have progressed very smoothly to the quarter-finals. We'll take it very seriously. But we believe we have the class and our target is to reach the final."
