FC Bayern were forced to focus intensely and battle away for the full 90 minutes before prevailing away from home against Hannover 96. "It was a hard-working victory," confirmed Holger Badstuber after the courageous home side pushed the league leaders all the way. "Hannover were superb in defence and that's why it was difficult for us," acknowledged Pep Guardiola, although the boss was ultimately pleased with "a good weekend for us." Thomas Müller also revealed a few of his pre-penalty thoughts.

Reaction to Hannover v Bayern

Pep Guardiola: "Hannover were superb in defence and that's why it was difficult for us. Wolfsburg have failed to take points so it's a good weekend for us. We'll take a break on Sunday, but as of Monday we'll focus on the Champions League and Shakhtar Donetsk."

Holger Badstuber: "Hannover pulled everyone back and that made it hard. The pitch wasn't easy either. We couldn't move the ball as fast as we like to and we didn't establish positions between the line. On top of that, they scored the opening goal. We improved in the second half. It was a hard-working victory."

Thomas Müller: "We practice penalties with the national team from time to time, so [Hannover keeper] Ron-Robert Zieler knows me a bit -- but apparently not well enough (laughs). Before I took it, I was wondering if I should do something differently. But I've done well with my system up to now so I didn't change anything."

Dirk Dufner (Hannover sporting director): "It was a courageous and very, very good tactical performance. We took a not undeserved lead, but then we had a free-kick given against us -- it was completely unjustified in my opinion -- and it led to the equaliser. I have no criticism of the team. They did all the coach could expect against invincible opponents."

Tayfun Korkut (Hannover coach): "It was a very, very decent display and we didn't do much wrong. We were tactically very disciplined, which is exactly what we talked about in the days leading up to the game. We played as a team, and that's what we should build on for our next few games."
