Mehdi Benatia took the next step towards a comeback from injury on Thursday when the Morocco captain resumed team training at FC Bayern. Benatia has missed the club’s last four games with muscular problems in his back and thigh. The 27-year-old centre-back last featured in mid-February in the 8-0 victory over Hamburger SV.
FCB’s possible quarter-final opponents
After back-to-back DFB Cup triumphs in the last two seasons, FC Bayern are through to the last eight of this term’s competition. The quarter-final ties, to be played on 7 and 8 April, will be drawn on the ARD Sportschau magazine show from 18:00 CET on Sunday evening. The strong quarter-final line-up features FCB, VfL Wolfsburg, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen – the current top four in the Bundesliga - plus Borussia Dortmund, Hoffenheim, SC Freiburg, and the one remaining non-top flight team, third division leaders Arminia Bielefeld. Women’s World Cup winner Nia Künzer will make the draw.
