Ribéry and Robben out of Bremen clash

FC Bayern will be without both Franck Ribéry and Arjen Robben for Saturday afternoon’s Bundesliga trip to face Werder Bremen. Both players were injured in Wednesday’s Champions League Round of 16 return at home to Shakhtar Donetsk: Ribéry took a knock to the ankle and Robben sustained a trapped nerve. Both were substituted during the match. Xabi Alonso also misses the league fixture in Bremen with a one-match ban for reaching five yellow cards.

Next step for Thiago

Thursday brought good news of Thiago Alcantara. The midfielder has been sidelined with a complicated knee injury for almost a year, but completed part o the team training session on Thursday for the first time since October 2014. The 23-year-old took part in passing practice and also continued with his tailored sports rehab programme. Philipp Lahm also performed a solo workout after the team session. The FCB captain rejoined the squad for training three days ago after recovering from a broken ankle and was an unused sub for Wednesday’s Shakhtar clash.
