Pepe Reina’s competitive debut for Bayern proved a good one: Saturday’s 4-0 win away to Bremen was the seasoned 32-year-old keeper’s maiden first-class appearance for Germany’s most successful club. Reina stood in for first-choice shot-stopper Manuel Neuer, who was given the weekend off by boss Pep Guardiola. The icing on the cake for former Barcelona and Liverpool keeper Pepe was a clean sheet.
Lahm celebrates comeback
After almost four months on the sidelines with injury, Bayern captain Philipp Lahm made a brief but successful comeback away to Werder. Lahm fractured his right ankle in training on 18 November last year but came on as an 82nd-minute substitute at the Weserstadion in Bremen, making his first appearance for the Bundesliga leaders since the 4-0 victory at Frankfurt on 8 November 2014.
Benatia banned for Gladbach clash
FC Bayern will be without Mehdi Benatia for the home meeting with Borussia Mönchengladbach eight days from now. The defender collected his fifth booking of the season in Saturday’s victory over Werder Bremen and serves an automatic one-match suspension.
