Sagnol: So many great memories

Zinedine Zidane was not the only big-name footballing personality from France to visit the Säbener Strasse facility this week. As part of a UEFA elite coaching program, Willy Sagnol also spent time at his former club FC Bayern. “For me personally it’s great to be back,” declared the Munich crowd favourite, who spent almost a decade wearing the famous red shirt with the number two until injury forced a premature end to his career in 2009. “So many great memories come flooding back, and I’ve met up again with a lot of people,” Sagnol told FCB.tv in our exclusive interview.

The 38-year-old won the Champions League and Intercontinental Cup with FC Bayern in 2001, the crowning glories of his club career. He also has five German championship and four DFB Cup winner’s medals. “This club still has a place in my heart,” said the man who currently coaches French top flight outfit Girondins Bordeaux. Sagnol said he was “very happy” when FCB reclaimed Europe’s elite club trophy in London two seasons ago. “I hope they make it to the final again this year,” he said.
