Bastian Schweinsteiger is doubtful for Bayern’s DFB Cup quarter-final tie away to Leverkusen on Wednesday evening. The Bayern vice-captain was injured in Saturday’s league meeting with Dortmund, and although the damage is not serious, the midfielder has sustained bruising to the left ankle and sat out team training on Monday. Franck Ribéry is also still struggling with an ankle problem and is definitely out of the cup clash in the Rhineland. On the plus side, Holger Badstuber resumed the squad programme after recovering from a sprain collected while on international duty with Germany.
Starke out with ligament damage
Unlucky backup keeper Tom Starke has sustained a more serious injury. The 34-year-old ruptured a ligament in his right ankle during Easter Sunday training and will be sidelined for around four weeks. The diagnosis was issued after the player underwent a medical at chief medical officer Dr Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt’s Munich practice.
