The Bayern officials and squad arrived safely in northern Portugal on Monday evening, two days ahead of the Champions League quarter-final first leg fixture against FC Porto. The FCB charter jet landed at Aeroporto Francisco Sá Carneiro at quarter to six local time, after which the team transferred by bus to their city centre hotel. The obligatory pre-match press conferences take place at lunchtime on Tuesday, with the acclimatisation training session at Estadio do Dragao set for the early evening.
Carballo in charge
Spanish match official Carlos Velasco Carballo has been named to referee Bayern’s Champions League clash with FC Porto on Wednesday evening. The 44-year-old from Madrid has already taken charge of three last-eight clashes in Europe’s elite club competition involving FCB, all of them away games. In 2012 Bayern defeated Olympique Marseille 2-0 in France. A year later, the Reds won by the same score against Juventus in Turin, while last season the engineer refereed Bayern’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford.
