On the occasion of the home match against Hertha BSC on Saturday, the FC Bayern “KiO day” took place in and around the Allianz Arena. Shortly before the game Karl Hopfner, FC Bayern president and executive chairman of the club’s charity foundation FC Bayern Hilfe, and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, executive chairman of FC Bayern München AG and vice president of FC Bayern Hilfe, donated a €20,000 cheque to Children Aid – Organ Transplant. Thirteen children who only survived because of organ transplants were the player escorts for the match, and 75,000 flyers with detachable organ donor cards were distributed at the Allianz Arena.
Barça win comfortably in derby
FC Barcelona, the Bavarians' semi-final opponents in the Champions League, continue to be on a roll. On Saturday afternoon the Catalans posted a comfortable 2-0 victory in the city derby against Espanyol. Neymar (17) and Lionel Messi (25) scored first-half goals, rewarding the visitors’ for their superiority. In the second half left-back Jordi Alba was sent off due to verbal abuse of the referee. With five matchdays still to go Barça are five points ahead of Real Madrid, who can reduce the gap against ninth-placed Celta Vigo on Sunday evening.
FCB women fight for the championship title
The FCB women's team will visit bottom club Herford, who are already certain to be relegated, on Sunday (14.00 CET). Wolfsburg and Frankfurt both won in midweek, but FC Bayern can regain second place between the two teams with a victory. If so, FC Bayern would have every chance to win the championship title in their home match against Essen on the last matchday, as Wolfsburg and Frankfurt face off in a head-to-head. For FC Bayern Sarah Romert, Vanessa Bürki, Ricarda Walkling, Viktoria Schnaderbeck and Katharina Baunach will not be available on Sunday.
