There was good news from Bayern’s Säbener Strasse training facility on Monday. Two days ahead of the Champions League semi-final first leg away to Barcelona and six days after fracturing his nose and jaw, Robert Lewandowski resumed training, wearing a protective mask. The Pole made a very good impression on his team-mates. “I think he’s fit and very motivated,” revealed Jérôme Boateng, “Robert has no fear. He’ll be used to the mask by the time of the match.”
Rizzoli to ref at Camp Nou
Wednesday evening’s clash in Barcelona will be refereed by Nicola Rizzoli, a familiar face to Bayern. The 43-year-old architect from Bologna was in charge when FC Bayern won Europe’s elite club competition at Wembley in May 2013. Overall, Rizzoli has refereed four matches involving the Reds, all of them away legs in the Champions League knockout stages, with the record level at two wins and two defeats. The Italian also whistled last summer’s World Cup Final in which Germany triumphed over Argentina.
