Dr Andreas Schlumberger is joining the FCB health and fitness team in time for the 2015/16 campaign. The 48-year-old sports scientist will head up the rehabilitation and injury prevention unit at the club. “We’re delighted we’ve been able to add proven specialist Dr Schlumberger to our team,” commented FC Bayern deputy chairman Jan-Christian Dreesen. “He will assume responsibility for the rehabilitation and injury prevention unit on 1 July.” Dr Schlumberger was head of the athletics section at Borussia Dortmund for the past four years, having previously worked with a number of German FA (DFB) junior teams and Bundesliga 2 club FC Nürnberg.
Müller shines at pro-am golf
We are currently in the football close season, but Bayern star Thomas Müller clearly cannot manage without sport of some sort. In the build-up to a high-ranking golf tournament in Eichenried on the outskirts of Munich, Müller took part in Wednesday’s traditional ProAm tournament, in which professional and amateur golfers compete in teams. Müller played his round with former world number one Martin Kaymer, ex-handball player Stefan Kretzschmar and singer Tim Bendzko. Müller, who plays off a highly respectable handicap of six, earned a chorus of praise afterwards: “Thomas Müller is an extremely good player,” observed European Tour competitor Maximilian Kieffer, “it looks a lot like pro golf.”
